i heart ... pumpkin spice kisses

look what i found at target!
i love pumpkin anything
so i was so excited to see these
pumpkin spice kisses!

they're super good!
and i'm so happy because
on the bag is a recipe for
pumpkin spice swirl cheesecake pie
which i haven't tried yet,
but if it tastes anything like the kisses
(which of course it will - hello!)
it's gonna be soooooo good!

here's the recipe:

2 packages (8 oz. each) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 graham cracker crust (8 oz.)
40 pumpkin spice kisses
1 tablespoon milk
whipped cream

1) preheat oven to 350 degrees.
beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla
in large bowl until smooth.
add eggs one at a time,
beating well after each addition.
set aside 1/4 cup batter;
spread remaining batter in crust.

2) remove kisses from wrappers.
microwave 30 kisses
on medium heat (50%)
for one minute; stir.
if necessary,
microwave 10 more seconds,
then stir,
repeating this until they are
melted and smooth.
gradually blend reserved
cheesecake batter
into melted kisses.
drop kisses mixture
by heaping teaspoonfuls
onto vanilla batter.
gently stir with knife
for marbled effect.

3) bake 30 to 35 minutes
or until center is almost set.
cool completely on wire rack.
cover; refrigerate until chilled.
garnish with whipped cream
and remaining kisses.

i heart ... this nerdy boy

one day,
while my niece sierra was at school,
i picked up her camera and started looking
through her pictures.
i know,
i'm terrible!
i should not have done it without her permission,
but i just didn't think about it at the time.
as i was looking through her pictures
i came upon this one
and could not stop laughing!!!
for the rest of the day i laughed every time
i thought about it!
thomas just looks like such a nerdy little boy
in those thick coke-bottle glasses
and dinosaur pajamas.
love it!

p.s.
no baby-eyes were harmed
in the taking of this picture.
those are play glasses
that just have the appearance
of being thick.

i heart ... strawberry napoleons

i stayed with my sister stacy's children last weekend.
we started talking about french desserts
for some reason
(but who ever really needs a reason).
so what's the best aunt in the world to do
but jump on the computer
find a recipe
and make it!
these turned out very good
and everyone loved them!
they're a very light dessert,
and perfect for summer.
(too bad summer is over,
except that i'm sooooooooooo
happy summer is over!!!!!!!!)

strawberry napoleons

1 package uncooked won tons

whipped cream

fresh strawberries, sliced

olive oil spray

sugar, for sprinkling

preheat oven to 350 degrees.

spray baking sheet with olive oil spray.

about 8 minutes.

spoon a good amount of whipped cream

Monday, September 14, 2009

every second monday in september
my family gathers at the cemetery
to celebrate our grandpa's birthday.
today is the second monday.

we want to celebrate
his life, rather than his death.

monday, september 10, 2001
was our first such gathering.

it was a completely average day.
we had no idea what was coming our way
the next morning.

i've thought about this often.
enjoying a nice, innocent september 10th
with my family
and then in a snap of the fingers
a handful of murderers
took away that innocence.

how i wish we could be living in a
september 10th world.
how i wish september 11, 2001
never happened.

but then i think,
i don't want to take back
who we became on september 12th...

...united.
prayerful.
full of love for one another.
we were all just americans,
not republican, democrat...

i wish we could all remember
who we were
on september 12th.

my nephew thomas

yes, it's true.

just a bowl and spoon.

(and please don't worry.
it's baby-safe salsa.
homemade by stacy)

i heart ... liberty market

i've been wanting to try
liberty market
for a long time now.

i finally did it.
two weeks in a row.
and it was worth the wait!

the first time,
i went with the girls i visit teach.
i ordered the "picnic" sandwich
(roasted turkey, caramelized pecans, green apple,
gorgonzola, mixed greens, roasted red pepper aioli)
with hummus on the side.
the carmalized pecans are what made this sandwich divine!

on my second visit
i went with my friend cindy.
this time i ordered the "arizona sky" sandwich
(turkey, creamy fontagne cheese,
mixed greens, roasted poblano aioli)
with caprese pasta salad on the side.
the roasted poblano aioli is what made this the best dish i've tried so far!!!

for dessert,
cindy and i shared a
strawberry tart.
(said with a british accent -
because it sounds better that way!)

p.s.
i am obsessed with their
light bulbs.
i know. weird. but i am. obsessed.

i heart ... beauty tips

i love finding good beauty advice.
sephora's blog,
beauty and the blog,
recently had some great tips.
here are my favorites
(and i've added a few of my own):

*for lipstick that lasts forever:
use a lip pencil instead of lipstick,
then apply a lip balm over it so your lips won't feel dry.

*add a teaspoon of poppy seeds to any lotion - taa daa!
you've got a skin-softening scrub.

*apply your sunscreen 30 minutes before heading outside,
and then again every 2 hours.
(i am seriously all about the sunscreen!!!)

*make this moisture-quenching hair mask:
1/2 an avocado + 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
leave on locks for 20 mins, then rinse.

*love your shampoo but hate buildup?
mix a teaspoon of cider vinegar
into your shampoo bottle every other month.
(the only problem with this tip is you are not going to smell very good!)

*an extra coat of mascara at the outer corners of the eyes
will help visually lift your peepers!

*you already know to condition hair from mid shaft down.
but if you've got really oily/fine hair, condition first, wash second!

*heat your eyelash curler for a few seconds
with the hairdryer...
helps curl better and hold better!
(i have totally done this and it works very well,
except you have to be careful not to burn yourself!)

*always use primer potion before applying shadow!

and my very, very favorite beauty advice:

***use phillips milk of magnesia as a face mask
to firm, tighten pores and minimize oiliness.

do you have any great beauty tips???

p.s.
this is my 100th post!
which is not actually a lot,
but 100 is still a milestone!

i heart ... artistic license

you know how makeup blogs
have beautiful close-up shots of
eyes and lips
to showcase
eyeshadow, lip gloss, whatever...?
well, this was my attempt to show
my new favorite eyeliner.
i took a million shots
and they were all
blurry!

oh well.
you can still see the color.
it's

love!

(now i'm going to go take photography classes!)

i heart ... eli

aren't those lips kissable???
introducing my new nephew
eli
he belongs to russ & jenn.
oh,
and he belongs to clayton and ava too.
they love him to death!
when they get anywhere near him
they start giggling with delight.

he's a very advanced baby.
he already knows how to play peek-a-boo.

p.s.

i had to include these pictures
of clayton's many costume changes
during our day together.

he began as a cowboy...

... then covertly snuck up on us
in his spy gear...

... and lastly,
batman!
